Public Health - Voluntary Day
Our Public Health Voluntary Day focuses on improving the living conditions and general well-being of the elderly in their home environments. During this day, volunteers carry out practical hygiene and safety activities These simple but essential interventions help prevent disease, promote cleanliness, and ensure a healthier and safer living environment for our seniors.
What is the Public Health – Voluntary Day and why is it important for the elderly in Mukono and across Uganda?
- Public Health – Voluntary Day is a community hygiene and safety program dedicated to improving the living conditions of elderly people in Mukono and other regions of Uganda. Many seniors face challenges such as limited mobility, unsafe home environments, and lack of proper sanitation. These issues increase the risk of infections, pests, and preventable diseases. By supporting hygiene and household improvements, this program helps protect the health, dignity, and well-being of elderly individuals—especially those living alone or in vulnerable communities in Mukono and rural Uganda. It promotes cleaner homes, safer surroundings, and a better quality of life for Uganda’s ageing population.
What activities are carried out during Public Health – Voluntary Day, and how can people support elderly care in Mukono and Uganda?
- During each Public Health – Voluntary Day, volunteers perform essential tasks that directly enhance hygiene and safety for seniors, including:
- Building utensil-drying racks
- Digging rubbish pits
- Clearing bushes and cleaning compounds
- Fumigating homes to prevent pests
- Digging trenches for proper water drainage
- These activities support elderly care in Mukono and benefit older persons in different districts across Uganda.
- Anyone can get involved—no special training is needed.
